Chapter 1 BUTLER'S Baja Ha-Ha 2006—2007

Ye ha!  Yippee!  Katie, bar the doors!  We're out of here!  Can't believe it but we actually did it.

Marilyn waves goodbye to the Golden Gate but won't leave her heart there.  We left Emeryville at 8:00 am and arrived at Half Moon Bay at 2:30 pm.  It wouldn't have taken so long except Paul just had to slow the boat down to troll for salmon. It sure tasted good at the restaurant in Half Moon Bay.  Oh well, we will just keep trying.

Our trip from Pillar Pt. Habor (Half Moon) takes a good 8 hrs. of rocking and rolling in 25-29 knot winds with gusts to 30-34 knots.  At one point we surf down a swell at 14.4 knots!!  We arrived at Monterey Bay Marina around 3:30 and safely tie up in our assigned slip.  We spend from Thursday afternoon until Saturday late a.m. when we leave for Stillwater Cove just off Pebble Beach Golf Course for the night.

Paul sets his fishing pole out to troll and we caught two sea bass while we were under sail.  We pull into Stillwater for the night and enjoy the view of multi-million dollar homes (not!!) from our floating island.  Next morning we leave at 5 a.m. for our long trip down to Morro Bay.

We have a beautiful day of almost glassy seas with a very gentle swell and full sun for our 13 hr. trip to Morro Bay.  Boy, was Marilyn ever looking forward to arriving in Morro.  The folks here at the Morro Bay Yacht Club are absolutely terrific.  We spent today, Monday, as a work day, installing a solar panel, walking blocks to the local grocery (burning calories), eating lunch out, laundry, etc.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) we'll do whatever comes our way.  Marilyn certainly doesn't miss the TV or the local news rag.  After all, we have our Sirius radio station to keep us up to date if we so choose.

Next stop will be Port San Luis Habor (Avila Beach) for a day or so.  It was our first home when we married 39 years ago while Paul was in college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

We've really enjoyed seeing the seals, sea lions, otters, shore and ocean birds, and to top it off whales yesterday!!!  It's wonderful.

To all our friends and family we will miss you but will bring back stories and pictures to share.

To the Baja Fleet 4 group we hope all is going well and that your progress toward San Diego is moving forward without event.
