Ahoy, Sailors!
Welcome to Spring, and another boating season. The slips at Folsom Lake are floating, and I am happy to report, Running With Scissors is neatly tucked into her berth. A big thank you to Tim Rust and his grandson Dada for helping me launch her! Since there was not any wind that day, we took the boat out for a quick spin to warm up the iron genny. We stopped to fish amongst the treetops that are poking up through the lake surface at this time of year for bass, and we were glad we did. We caught some nice smallmouth and spotted bass.
I’ve been out a couple of times since then, one with some really strong winds with gusts in the mid-20’s. That was sporty and I had the lake all to myself. I encourage all of you to get out and enjoy the water. This could be an interesting year with lake levels. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a long season!
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters Sail Day and Picnic. If you are interested in helping with sailing or the picnic, please contact me. Thanks!
Here is what’s coming up on deck:
Fair winds and happy sailing!

Who We Are and What We Do
Catalina 22 Fleet 4 is based in Sacramento, California, with members throughout the greater metro area and beyond. Our home waters are Folsom Lake, nestled in beautiful Folsom, California.
Our Fleet boasts an active cruising calendar, local racing opportunities, and regular meetings to foster camaraderie and fun. Our cruises span California—from the San Francisco and Monterey Bays, through the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, to stunning mountain lakes like Union Valley Reservoir and Lake Tahoe. Over the years, we’ve even ventured to the San Juan Islands and Lake Havasu.
One of our signature events is the annual Bigs and Littles Sail Day, co-hosted with the Folsom Lake Yacht Club. This special day pairs volunteers with matched pairs from local Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations for sailing adventures, water fights, and a lakeside BBQ – a tradition we cherish.
Celebrating 50 Years
In 2022, Fleet 4 proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary, a remarkable milestone for any organization, especially a recreational inland sailing club! We marked the occasion with a banquet full of laughter, stories, and reunions with old friends. These memories remind us why we sail—and inspire us to keep the tradition alive for decades to come. Check out the 50th fun!
